Simplot international operations

The J.R. Simplot Company is headquartered in Boise, Idaho, but does business around the globe. There are major operations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and China, with products marketed in more than 40 countries worldwide.

Australia

 

As one of the nation’s top 10 food and beverage companies, Simplot Australia manufactures and sells frozen, canned and fresh products through an extensive network of supermarkets, convenience stores and food service outlets.

Canada

 

The J.R. Simplot Company potato processing plant in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, has an annual capacity of more than 300 million pounds (135 million kilos) of frozen french fries and formed potato products. The plant began operations in 2003, and is among the most efficient facilities of its kind in the world. It was built to accommodate future expansion that could double its initial capacity. The Portage plant serves large quick-service-restaurant chains and other U.S. customers in the East, Southeast, and Midwest.

China

 

Simplot is the leading multi-national potato processor with processing facilities in China that meet international health and safety standards. The Company is engaged in a number of China-based enterprises, some wholly owned and others in partnership with Chinese companies. Beijing Simplot Food Processing Co. Ltd. is a joint venture facility located in Nanyan, just outside Beijing. Simplot’s business development activity in China is overseen by the wholly owned Simplot Beijing Company. In addition to new ventures, Simplot Beijing provides full-service support to our foodservice customers in China for Simplot food products produced at facilities around the world. Simplot’s operations in China also include forage crops, turf-seed sales and consulting through our Jacklin Seed subsidiary.

Japan

 

Simplot Japan, located in Tokyo, Japan, sells high quality french fries, formed potato products and avocado products to customers throughout Japan including QSR, convenience stores, rotating sushi shops and wholesale companies.

Mexico

 

Headquartered in Mexico City, Simplot de Mexico is a wholly-owned subsidiary of JR Simplot, and acts as the transnational sales and marketing organization for sales to Latin America. Simplot de Mexico is focused on selling potatoes, vegetables and other frozen products to Latin American retailers and foodservice outlets.

MarBran is a joint venture between Simplot and local Mexican partners. It operates two vegetable processing plants in the state of Guanajuato, one of which are in the municipality of Irapuato and one in Jaral. MarBran also operates a plant in Sacatepequez, Guatemala, that processes broccoli, cauliflower, sugar snap peas, mangos, papaya, cantaloupe, and honeydew melons as part of a joint venture with Superior Foods.

MarBran products are distributed in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan to a client base composed mainly of supermarkets and foodservice companies. Some customers also use MarBran vegetables as ingredients for their entrees and side dishes.

Southeast Asia

 

Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Simplot Southeast Asia sells a variety of Simplot brands and products throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia through a network of independent retail and foodservice distributors. This part of the Company does not have its own food processing facilities, but instead sources products from the North American Food Group, Simplot Australia and external suppliers.
